| THE
STRANDING |
This turtle was observed by
boaters in the Snow's Cut Inlet near Carolina Beach.
They thought she was dead and brought her to shore, then notified NC
wild life authorities. They in turn asked the Turtle project from
Carolina/Kure beach to collect the data from the dead turtle.
They were able to reach her by kayak, only to discover that the turtle
was alive, with a terrible head wound. They then had to find a
boat to retrieve the turtle and finally transport by car to the
KBSTRRC. So, in addition to the injury this turtle had a very
long day.

| THE
TREATMENT |

She has a fracture running from one side of her head to the other.
She was weighed and then administered an anti-inflammatory and
antibiotics, before being placed in shallow water. The wound was
flushed and covered with antibiotic cream.
